After the first conversation
Who stays in the conversation after the visit?
A prescription does not answer how later questions will be handled. Ask for that part of the plan in writing too.
| Before you leave the visit | If the plan later changes |
|---|---|
| The next review When do we meet again, and what are we reviewing? | The reason to change What information would lead us to rethink the plan? |
| Questions between visits How do I reach a clinician, and who answers when they are away? | A break in access If I leave, how will my records and treatment plan reach my next clinician, and who will explain my care to them? |
| The ongoing bill What renews, what is optional and how can I end a membership? | A supply or coverage change Who helps if the prescription cannot be filled or my plan stops paying? |
Ask what progress means for your care
Ask which changes matter for the condition being treated and how they will be reviewed. Say what would make the plan hard to continue, whether that is cost, time or the way care is delivered.
The semaglutide (Wegovy) label names blood-sugar checks for people with diabetes, heart-rate review and kidney checks when fluid loss is a concern.
That is an example of product-specific follow-up, not a test list for everyone. Ask which checks fit your own medicine and history.
Ask about stopping before it becomes urgent
In the STEP 1 extension, the year following semaglutide withdrawal brought a regain of about two-thirds of the weight participants had lost earlier.
That was a trial finding, not an instruction that every person must stay on treatment indefinitely.
Ask how the clinician would plan a change if the treatment no longer fits. Discuss how care will pass to another clinician, along with medicine questions and costs.
