Identify the medicine

# The ingredient alone does not identify the whole product

Ask which product is on the table. Then ask why that product fits the reason you came for care.

A generic is a version of a brand medicine approved by FDA, short for Food and Drug Administration.

Medicine names and approved uses checked September 26, 2026.

With sleep apnea, breathing keeps pausing or growing shallow while a person sleeps. An ingredient is the medicine component that has an effect on the body. The brand is the product name.

## Write the whole name, not just the ingredient

Ask for the brand or generic product, its tablet or injection form, and the name of its maker or preparing pharmacy. Then ask which condition the proposed product would address in your care.

At the September 26, 2026 check, United States marketing was not allowed for a generic of either semaglutide or tirzepatide.

A compounded preparation is not an approved generic, as of that same date.
